A 1995 zoning change converted a large area of Chelsea from a manufacturing district to mixed residential and commercial use. The Albanese Organization was the first firm to realize the potential of transforming this area into a prime residential neighborhood. It envisioned and then developed a multifamily rental building with a retail base, and an affordable housing component. The goal was to support the cultural, commercial, and retail renaissance of this area of Manhattan. This project, made possible by the New York State Housing Finance Agency, provides much needed affordable housing and provided job opportunities for minority and woman-owned firms during its construction as well.
